Rope and Chrome - Woven Cantilever Metal Chairs

2 items left

This rope woven metal cantilever chair is my re-imagined version of the design classic by Mart Stam.

The original tubular chair designs by Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer were so popular that they have been recreated by many companies ever since. (read more about tubular metal furniture here: http://en.thonet.de/about-us/thonet-the-story/1927-the-new-living.html)

The chairs I've chosen to revamp are NOT authentic Mart Stam cantilever chairs, which of course should be lovingly restored as originals. These are high quality Made in Italy "knockoff" versions of those original chairs. The frames are in excellent vintage condition, with no rust or large flaws. I estimate they are from the '70s or '80s.

I've restored the original armrests (plastic base with applied leather) but have completely rethought the rest of the chair with handwoven cotton cord.

This 3/16" 100% cotton cord has a synthetic core, which prevents the rope from completely stretching out. Please note a small amount of stretching is inevitable with heavy use, and this chair is recommended for sitting only, no standing! The black contrast chain weave is made from nylon paracord.

PLEASE NOTE: The price listed is for ONE chair, we have two of these chairs available in total.
